Egan Urban Center

Lab Dedication

The Egan Center dedicated our Michael L. Mezey Faculty & Community Research Center Lab at the Lincoln Park Office on June 22, 2005 in recognition of M MezeyProfessor Mezey’s commitment to the development of a research infrastructure at DePaul. His financial contributions as dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences helped construct the Lab and expand its scope. His continuing contributions of staff support have enabled the Lab to offer data analysis, GIS mapping assistance, and extensive, current database resources to students, faculty and community users..

Professor Mezey came to DePaul in 1977 as chair of the Department of Political Science. In his 12 years as dean of LA&S, the liberal studies core curriculum was revised, a number of specialty programs and centers were inaugurated, and service learning requirements were integrated into the undergraduate curriculum. College enrollment and full-time faculty nearly doubled in size during his tenure. As he steps down as dean, he will resume teaching at DePaul in fall 2006.

Professor Mezey is a leading scholar in political science, particularly of American political institutions, legislative politics and the presidency. He has written the books Congress, The President and Public Policy and Comparative Legislatures.

Raised in Brooklyn, New York, he has a B.A. from the City College of New York, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Syracuse University. He has been on the faculties of the University of Virginia, the University of Hawaii and Wesleyan University.
